Could you imagine an under 7/8/9/10 etc game on a Saturday where we just let the kids play and didn’t shout at them every time a player touched the ball. Why do we get so caught up in a junior game, where the only thing at stake is a few points!

This move to a more attractive style of football is not beyond us and can start with a reduction in the competitive nature of our game.

Another small step would be extension of the small sided game to include at least under 12 football (hopefully someone in the SFAI is reading this).

The change needed is a mindset one on the part of coaches, clubs and leagues.  Also required is a willingness to allow children to play a game based on passing and skill. This will also require both coach and parent education away from a winning at all cost mentality.
